HOW TO PLANT A CLIMBER ON A WALL OR FENCE

Get climbers like this passion flower off to a great start by following these simple steps when planting

Step 1

1) Plant Beside Supports
Fix a trellis or horizontal wires to the fence or wall. Then plant your climber about 20cm (8in) from the support, leaning the stems towards it as shown.
step 2

2) Untangle the stems
Snip the tapes holding the stems to the cane and slide it out. Carefully prise apart the stems, taking care not to snap any, and position on the trellis.
step 3

3) Tie stems to support
Some climbers will cling to the trellis or wires unaided once established, but it is best to tie them on initially. Use soft twine and tie the stems on loosely.
step 4

4) Keep tying in
Water after planting and keep tying on the stems for the first season or two. Feed in spring with Miracle Gro All Purpose Continuous Release Plant Food.
