
In 1818, James Bowie found the first Streptocarpus in South Africa. He sent seeds from this plant to Kew Gardens in London, and it first flowered there in 1827.

Temperature
Average home temperatures are fine for this plant. Never place near to a radiator.
Light
A bright spot away from direct sun. An east or west facing windowsill is ideal. If the spot is too bright leaves and flower become burnt however if spot is too dull, you will get large leaves but little to no flowers.
Water
Try not to over water, these plants can withstand some drought but water when pot feels light to lift. Water from above or below but avoid getting water on leaves.
Feed
Use a feed high in potash as this helps develop flowers rather than large leaves. Specialist Streptocarpus tablets are also available. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions.
Caution – Leaves can be an irritant to some people, wash hands after contact.
Not known to be poisonous to pets
However, if ingested in high quantities it may result in a poorly tummy.
