The Goods Inwards Team Leader is responsible for overseeing all aspects of incoming goods, ensuring accurate and efficient receipt, inspection, and storage of materials and products. This role involves leading a team to ensure timely unloading, quality checks, documentation, and stock accuracy, while maintaining high standards of health, safety, and compliance
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the goods inwards team.
  • Coordinate unloading and inspection of all incoming deliveries.
  • Check delivery paperwork against purchase orders and escalate discrepancies.
  • Ensure accurate recording of stock into inventory systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe goods-in area in compliance with HSE regulations.
  • Liaise with procurement, quality control, and warehouse teams to resolve any delivery issues.
  • Monitor team performance and productivity, providing coaching and support where needed.
  • Ensure timely communication with suppliers and internal departments on delivery status and issues.
  • Conduct regular audits of goods inwards processes and stock records.
  • Lead by example in promoting a culture of continuous improvement and team collaboration.
  • Report non-conformances and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
 
Person Specification:
Essential:
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics environment, particularly goods receiving.
  • Supervisory or team leader experience in a similar setting.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of inventory systems (e.g., ERP/WMS).
  • Ability to interpret delivery notes, purchase orders, and other supply chain documentation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic IT proficiency (Microsoft Office, especially Excel).
  • Awareness of health and safety standards in a warehouse environment.
 
Desirable:
  • Forklift truck license (counterbalance and/or reach).
  • Experience with lean or continuous improvement practices.
  • Understanding of quality control procedures for incoming goods.
 
You will need to be comfortable with working in a fast-paced environment which involves lifting, moving or operating machinery (PPE provided). Shift work or extended hours during peak periods may be required.
 
This is a full time and permanent position, working on average 37.5 hours per week on a 2 week rota. This involves working 4 weekdays plus every alternate weekend (you would work 4 days one week and have one weekday plus the weekend off, then you work 6 days the following week, including both weekend days).
