Alpine Plants
Alpine Plants
If your outdoor space is limited, Alpines are the ideal plants as they’re compact but usually produce vibrant little flowers in a range of tones so you can put together a colourful mini display in a container on a patio, balcony, or even a doorstep. Alpine plants are hardy too, coming from the mountainous regions, and therefore are the perfect easy-to-grow plant for a beginner gardener. They enjoy dry, sunny conditions so place in a container, rock garden, gravel garden or raised bed where they have free-draining soil or drainage holes to prevent them from being too damp. You could combine several different Alpines together to produce a slowly spreading carpet of stunning colour. When planted like this in gravel or rocks it mimics their natural habitats on mountain slopes. It’s best to plant your Alpine in spring or autumn and, with very little maintenance these compact plants will live for several years, flowering in abundance at various times of the year.
