Sow indoors March-April. A warm kitchen windowsill is all you need for starting these seeds. Sow thinly, 0.5cm (¼") deep, in a pot of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-14 days. Transplant to individual pots when 10-15cm (4-6") tall. Grow on in cooler, but not cold conditions. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out into warm, well-drained soil, 60cm (2') apart, during May-June when frosts are over. Harvest: August-October.
Harvest whole plants and hang to dry in a light, sunny, airy position until the tomatoes are pliable but 'leathery' to touch. They can also be air dried in an oven. Excellent eaten fresh too.
