RHS Plants for Pollinators
Description
Why we love it:
  • Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia' is an evergreen shrub that makes an excellent hedging plant
  • This bushier and more upright growing form of Common Laurel has large glossy, dark green leaves and small white flowers on spikes in mid-spring followed by cherry red berries (harmful if eaten)
  • Suitable for a variety of planting positions, it can cope with both full sun and full shade under trees, but avoid a chalky soil
  • It's very quick growing but can be pruned hard to shape into a dense evergreen hedge

What you need to know:
  • 1 x Prunus laurocerasus 'Rotundifolia'
  • Plant Type: Hardy evergreen shrub
  • Flowers: White in mid-spring
  • Height: 5m
  • Width: 4m
  • Position: Full sun, partial shade or full shade
  • Soil Type: Moist but well drained (not chalky)

Caring for your plant:
  • When planting incorporate lots of well-rotted garden compost in the planting hole
  • Prune in either spring or summer
  • Mature plants can tolerate hard pruning in spring
